Police say a human skeleton was found late Thursday in San Jose's Fruitdale area.
The human remains were found around 6 p.m. near a homeless encampment in the area of Moorpark and Richmond avenues, just south of Interstate 280, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A passerby called San Jose police earlier in the day to report seeing a human skull in the area, which falls under CHP jurisdiction.
The passerby said news reports of other human remains recently discovered sparked his memory that he had seen a human skill in the area about a month ago, according to the CHP.
Thursday's discovery is the second consecutive day human remains have been found in the South Bay.
On Wednesday, a PG&E worker found human remains in the outskirts of Gilroy.
The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office said the remains were found in the area of Santa Teresa Boulevard and Castro Valley Road, next to the Gavilan College Golf Course and near Highway 101.

Sheriff's Office Sgt. James Jensen said the gender of the human remains found in Gilroy was still unknown, but added dental work found on the teeth had gold caps.
Jensen said the gold caps means the remains are not that of Sierra LaMar, who was murdered in 2012 and whose body has yet to be found.
No other information was immediately available.
