Contra Costa County Fire Crews Respond to 2-Alarm Fire at Concord Furniture Store

An office furniture store in Concord erupted into flames around 7:20 p.m. Thursday.

Contra Costa County crews responded to the two-alarm blaze at Sam Clar Office Furniture on Diamond Way near Challenge Drive, authorities said. The fire was knocked down shortly after 8 p.m. but not before it damaged the business.

"We've got good people and most of what we do can be recovered so we're going to start tomorrow and put it back together and keep business going as usual," owner John Schwartz said.

Sam Clar, a fourth-generation family business, was forced to relocate from its Oakland location after being gutted by a fire in 1973.

No injuries were reported, officials said, adding that the cause is under investigation.

Further details were not immediately available.
