1 Killed, 1 Injured After Car Falls 40 Feet in Rollover Crash Off State Route 237

A man was killed in a rollover crash off of State Route 237 in San Jose Monday afternoon, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.

Shortly after 12 p.m., officers responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on westbound 237 west of Lafayette Street near Great America Parkway, CHP Officer Ross Lee said.

A gray Toyota Tundra was sideswiped by a truck, then went off to the right shoulder and struck a 3-foot-tall concrete wall before going over the barrier, Lee said.

The Toyota went 40 feet down an embankment before it landed on its driver's side in a vacant lot, according to Lee. Emergency crews extricated the Toyota driver and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man sitting in the right front passenger seat was transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center for minor injuries, Lee said.

The driver of the other vehicle pulled over to the shoulder and cooperated with investigators, Lee said. Investigators do not suspect drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, he added.

The Santa Clara County medical examiner's office has been called to the scene. The circumstances leading up to the crash are under investigation.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call the CHP San Jose area office at (408) 467-5400.
